Dr Sue Soan

Sue started her career as a middle school teacher and over the following 25 years worked as a mathematics coordinator, SENCO and senior leader in mainstream and specialist primary and secondary schools.

She then joined a university where she designed and taught CPD programmes for teachers becoming the Director of SEND and Inclusion, before focusing on supervising Doctoral research. Her own PhD Thesis (2013) is entitled ‘An exploration through a small number of case studies of the education provision for Looked After Children who have experienced early life abuse or neglect’. Sue is now a SEND / Inclusion consultant, currently working with fostering agencies to help them develop the education support they offer to both young people and foster carers. She values being able to sit on fostering and adoption panels in England and the Isle of Man and volunteers as a Legal Member for a national SEN charity and as a Chair of Governors for a local secondary school.

Having published in the field of SEND / Inclusion since 2003 her last book is called Inclusive Education Theory and Practice: moving from Special Educational Needs to Equity (Soan & Monsen, 2023).
