Admissions

KITE College is an independent, co-educational specialist Post 16 provision for young people with complex Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs. In order to secure a placement at KITE, young people must have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), with an identified need of SEMH. Alongside SEMH needs, our learners may also be diagnosed with Autism, ADHD, OCD, Anxiety, School Based Anxiety, Prolonged Social Withdrawal, Speech, Language and Communication needs Sensory Processing Needs and Social Communication Needs.

Learners may attend KITE from year 12 onwards, aged 16-25 years. We can offer provision to approximately 100 young people from Kent and surrounding areas. Most young people will stay at KITE for one to two years.

Admission to KITE College will not be conditionally decided dependent on prior learning nor qualifications as we recognise some of our learners may not have been in education through the Secondary school phase.

A request for a place at KITE must be made to the appropriate local authority SEN Team. Once we have received the referral papers, the application is considered and, based on the papers provided, a decision is made on whether we can meet the young person’s needs. There will then be an informal interview process. If a placement is considered to be appropriate following consultation and successful interview, the Local Authority will name KITE College on Section I of the EHCP.

We recognise transition may be difficult for our young people and an induction program will be arranged.

Enquiries from parents/carers prior to this stage are welcomed, alternatively we have three open days a year.

We look forward to meeting you.
