Personal Development
STATEMENT OF INTENT: PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT
Personal Social Health Education (PSHE) including Relationships Sex Education (RSE) is delivered thorough our 2-year Personal Development curriculum and is at the heart of KITE College’s values and ethos, which runs throughout all that we do. Following the government’s statutory guidance on relationships education, relationships and sex education (RSE) and health education, alongside guidance from the PSHE association, we have devised a broad and balanced curriculum to support our learners to become resilient and well-rounded individuals.
At KITE College, we take pride in our diverse and dynamic Personal Development curriculum. We encompass a multitude of themes which are delivered through classroom based and practical activities, alongside careers workshops and topical presentations from external providers, to develop a range of employability skills, independent living skills and careers, information, advice and guidance (CIAG), all of which enhance the vocational offer at KITE College. This Personal Development curriculum develops the skills our learners need for increased employability and to live full and rewarding lives outside in the wider world. The Personal Development curriculum is set out into thematic termly units which interlink the programme, delivered in a small group setting with support from Learning Support Practitioners (LSPs) who work closely with the learners across all subjects.
Our Personal Development curriculum aims to enable our learners to become healthy, safe, independent, responsible members of society who demonstrate respect and tolerance, and who are prepared to face and manage the challenges and opportunities of an ever-changing modern Britain. We endeavour to empower our learners to aspire to be the best they can be, to have dreams for their future and know what is required to reach them. We provide opportunities for our learners to learn about rights and responsibilities and appreciate what it means to be a valuable member of an ever-changing diverse society. We will help our learners to understand and consider a range of moral, social and cultural issues growing up in Modern Britain and deepen their understanding of the fundamental British values of democracy, individual liberty, the rule of law and mutual respect and tolerance. We will develop their sense of self-worth by playing a positive role in contributing to college life and the wider community and stimulate, challenge and nurture our learner’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural curiosity.
We work alongside learner voice to tailor the lessons to individual and communal needs, working with external agencies and collaboratively across the College to create a bespoke and holistic approach. We passionately believe that every learner should have the right to thrive in our college and give them every opportunity to progress onto their next destination.
